So Neil and I had our first free night sans kids in a long time. Teagan is camping with his buddy for the week, and Kierin and Jaeden both had sleepovers with friends. Neil and I thought it would be a perfect time to try some Ethiopian Cuisine, so we headed to Meskerem. The employees there were very pleasant. There were some couples and families enjoying dinner...we couldn't help but wonder if any of them are currently in the process of adoption. We had a nice meal, went to the movies, and headed to a fantastic yoga class when we woke up this morning. We need to do that more often!!!!

Here's our first ever, Ethiopian meal. Don't ask me what we ordered...a meat dish, veggie dish, and the sides came with our order. We loved eating the injera and using our hands to scoop...fun! Apparently the tradition is to eat it with your right hand, but we have a house full of lefties...is that going to be a complete faux pas in Ethiopia??? Neil is right handed, so he will be okay ;-). Oh, and the Perrier (center in the pic) is for Jaeden. She has discovered a love for bubbly water and I knew she would be excited to know they serve it at Meskerem!

All done...so did we like it? We did! But wondering about having to eat Ethiopian food everyday while we are there...hmmm. I'm sure there are other options, right? Just like China...we LOVE Chinese food but got tired of eating it for two weeks straight, for almost every meal! I don't think we ate Chinese food for a year after we returned to the states! With our kids traveling with us, I'm thinking we will be packing some peanut butter and protein bars just in case. Any other suggestions???
I've heard that Ethiopia has fantastic Italian food - second only to Italy - because they were occupied by the Italians during WW II (I think). So, even though we really like Ethiopian food, we'll be looking forward to some Italian food as well!
ReplyDeleteKim- I was at Meskerem Saturday- but for lunch! Let's go sometime! # 4 for an infant boy- so exciting. It won't be long!

we love Meskerem too. Believe it or not, it's the closest restaurant to us and we live in SC! Another believe it or not -- I traveled a year ago to ET and had the best Chinese, EVER. Who would have thought! (We are waiting on our little girl from ET and were DTE 8-27 with AWAA. )
